  • Nationally, school meals have never had such a high profile and we at Kirklees have capitalised on that interest. To encourage pupils to stay for a meal, we have taken the unusual decision not to increase the price of primary or secondary school lunches, which still stand at £1.85 and £2.00 respectively. The meals represent excellent value for money, with all pupils being offered a healthy, nutritious, balanced meal with a number of choices available daily.

Five reasons why there has never been a better time to stay for a school meal:

    1. Hot, healthy and nutritious.
    2. Choice and variety to suit all tastes.
    3. Excellent value for money.
    4. Convenient - saving you time, no packed lunch to prepare.
    5. An educational and social event.

What you should expect when moving up from primary school

Look at the excellent choices available:

You can choose from traditional hot food, pasta and pizza, jacket potatoes with various fillings, fresh salads, and a selection of bread including baguettes, pitta and tortilla wraps as well as a wide selection of desserts, fresh fruit medleys and drinks. Just simply make your choices and then pay at the till for the food you have chosen.

For those students who are entitled to free meals, this system allows them to purchase a meal in exactly the same way as every other student. The allowance for a free meal is £2.00.

Some of our secondary schools have breakfast clubs and morning break service, you have the freedom to choose from a tasty thick slice of toast to a sizzling sausage or bacon sandwich, or a cereal bar.
